March 2020

Dear Parents,

Out of an abundance of caution, we as a district have decided to postpone planned school events that include the likely attendance of large numbers of visitors up through April break. Therefore, we are now postponing the

Science Fair on March 19 and Theme Day on March 27. Both events will be rescheduled if possible or prudent

to do so. We will evaluate the prudence of continuing with any planned events after break upon our return in mid-April, based on current information. Also, please know that we are now as a district having our custodial staff in on weekends to implement additional sanitizing throughout the buildings; this is in addition to the regular sanitizing of desktops, doorknobs, public surfaces, etc. that has been in place. We have also bagged all water faucets in the building; the bottle fillers on our filtered units are still functional and I do encourage you to have your child bring a refillable bottle. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your understanding. While we regret the postponements, nothing is more important than the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff.

Best regards,

Mr. Raimo

August 2019

Dear Sicomac Families,

It's almost time! As I say each year, all we need are your lovely children to turn our building back into a school! I can't wait.

Our theme this year is "Be Olympic!" Inspired by the upcoming Summer Olympics, we felt it was a timely opportunity to help students emulate the original intensions of the Olympics - practicing good sportsmanship, perseverance, teamwork, doing one's individual best, hard work, persistence - all of which pertain to our theme. We will encourage students to strive - to find their inner Olympian - to give their best effort in whatever task they are given. I am excited to think of the important lessons about effort our young students will each experience as they strive to reach their personal goals - however small they might seem to us. For them, they could be heroic - even Olympian!

Opening Day Info
Teachers will join me outside in the upper parking lot nearest the baseball field to welcome you and your children back to school on opening day, Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Opening day line up starts at 830am; we will begin to enter just before 850am. Look for your child's teacher's name on her sign to know where to line up. Dismissal for ALL students on opening day is 1:05pm. No lunch will be served so be sure to pack a snack. Kindergarten snacks should be nut free! Please read all labels.

AM PreK line up also begins at 830am but will instead be located in the front of the building. Our PM PreK session will meet later in the day in front as well.

YMCA After Care (but not Kinder Krew) for registered participants begins on the first day of school.

Warm regards, and welcome back to school!

Things to Know...

Regular Drop Off and Dismissal
Except for the first day of school, K-5 arrival runs from 835am to 850am. All students enter school through the left side door and line up, seated, indoors next to their classrooms every day. No parents are permitted to enter the left side door but must, instead, be buzzed through the front door. All visitors, even those who are known to us, will be asked to state their name and offer a short reason for their visit. Thank you for your cooperation. Please advise any guardians or family members picking up on your behalf of these procedures. Any visitor who must proceed past the front office must also show a drivers license in order to continue.

Kindergarten half days conclude at 1:15pm. Pick up is outside at the left side door.

Pick up for students in Grades K-5 on full days is at 320pm at the left side door. Kindergarten students, however, will exit at 315pm on their full days.

Late students must be signed in at the front office by a parent/guardian. Students are considered late if arriving after the second bell at 850am.

No K-5 Pick Up in Front of School
The front of school is reserved for PRE-K pick up exclusively. Please do not park in spots or at the curb to wait for your K-5 students. Any car without a PRE-K card in the right front window will be asked to move to the main lot for pick up. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Our tiniest students and their parents greatly benefit from having this area remain a safe zone just for their use.

New Grade Level Recess/Lunch Period Order
Please note this year's times for your child's grade level lunch period. Recess is always the 20 minutes prior to the grade level lunch.

Grade 3: 1135am-1155am
Grade 2: 1155am-1215pm
Grade 1: 1215pm-1235pm
Grade 4: 1235pm-1255pm
Kindergarten: 1235pm-1255pm
Grade 5: 1255pm-115pm

Staff News
Mrs. Kelly Surgent :   We welcome our new Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Surgent, to Sicomac School! Once she is released from her present contract in another NJ district, she can begin at Sicomac. Until that time, we are most fortunate to have the support of one of our trusted, go-to Sicomac substitute teachers, Miss Colleen Rowe, who will be in charge of KS until Mrs. Surgent begins. Mrs. Surgent will be there on the first day of school along with Miss Rowe, which is great.

Goodbye, Ms. Lucchetto! Welcome, Miss Caputo!
Ms. Lucchetto resigned over the summer in advance of moving to PA; I am happy to announce the return of Miss Kristin Caputo to Sicomac School as our new Technology Teacher. Miss Caputo began her Wyckoff teaching career at Sicomac over ten years ago before working at Eisenhower and other top districts. She has degrees in Early Childhood Education, Technology, and Supervision, and brings terrific skills plus lots of great district connections to Sicomac!

Mrs. Julie Gemma:
Mrs. Gemma will be the Instructional Aide in Mrs. Surgent's class. Welcome, Mrs. Gemma!
