As a reminder, there will be no school for students on Monday. Next week, we join the nation in celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His message of unity, peace, and equality remains a cornerstone of the values we teach here at Coolidge School. Teachers will reinforce this message with students this week in honor of Dr. King.
Thank you to the Coolidge PTO and the many parent volunteers who made our Kindergarten and 2nd Grade Kids Night a success on Friday night. Students had a lot of fun and created some great Coolidge memories. Kids Nights for all other grades have been planned for the upcoming weeks.

Message from Mr. Cosman regarding this week’s school musical rehearsals: Check out the updated January Calendar for the upcoming musical rehearsal schedule. Students should enter via the gym doors. Please wait in your car until someone opens the doors at 8:15. Contact Mr. Cosman if you have any questions, or refer to his email.
Congratulations to our 5th-grade band students for their two wonderful performances on Friday. It is amazing how much growth we have seen in our budding musicians! We look forward to the combined 4th and 5th-grade band concert in June.

HEALTHY BODIES, HEALTHY MINDS
As we begin a new calendar year, we’d like to take a moment to highlight something that has a powerful impact on your child’s school day: the foods they eat.
Why Healthy Snacks and Lunches Matter
Children are growing rapidly—and their brains are working hard every moment they’re in school. Nutritious foods give students the steady energy and focus they need to learn, play, solve problems, and stay engaged throughout the day.
We kindly ask that students bring healthy snacks and lunches whenever possible. Foods that are highly processed or high in sugar—such as candy, sugary drinks, snack cakes, and chips—can lead to quick energy spikes followed by crashes. When this happens, children may become tired, irritable, or have difficulty concentrating.
Healthy Eating and Academic Success
Research consistently shows that children who eat balanced, nutritious meals are more likely to:
Stay focused during lessons
Perform better on classwork and tests
Maintain steady energy throughout the school day
Show improved behavior and emotional regulation
Boost memory and problem-solving skills
Simply put, healthy eating helps promote healthy learning. When students feel good physically, they do better academically and socially.
Healthy Snack & Lunch Ideas
Here are some simple, kid-friendly suggestions:
Fresh fruit (apples, berries, bananas, clementines)
Veggies with hummus or ranch
Whole-grain crackers or whole-wheat wraps
Yogurt or cheese sticks
Lean proteins (turkey rolls, hard-boiled eggs, beans)
Water as the main drink
Small changes can make a big difference!
Working Together
Our goal is to support your child’s success in every way—academically, emotionally, and physically. By choosing healthier options for breakfast, lunch and snack time, you’re helping your child build lifelong habits that strengthen both their body and mind.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students healthy and ready to learn each day!
Warmly,
Phyllis Krey, School Nurse
Rob Famularo, Principal
