Sicomac School PTO Book Fair FAQ

September 28th, 29th & 30th, 2022

What is the Book Fair at Sicomac School?

The purpose of the Book Fair is to encourage reading and foster a love of books. It offers the children an opportunity to select and purchase books that they choose. It is also a school PTO fundraiser event and all proceeds are donated back to our media center to be used to purchase new books and materials. An outside vendor (Scholastic) is consigned to provide a selection of books, both hardcover and soft, with titles ranging from early picture books to reference and gift/novelty books.

When do the students attend the Book Fair?

Each class will visit the Book Fair for a 25-minute period scheduled by their teacher on one of the two Book Fair days. Please see the table below for your child’s scheduled visit day & time.

The dates and times of this year’s Book Fair are:

•       Wednesday, September 28th (during Back to School Night)

6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

•        Thursday, September 29th

9:20 am - 3:20 pm

•       Friday, September 30th

9:20 am – 3:20 pm

Children who are absent or forget their money on the first day will be permitted to visit on the second day. The Book Fair will also be open for students to shop with one parent directly after school on both days. Parents may also shop during Back to School Night, Wednesday, September 28th

Please note: Back to School Night will take place the evening prior to your children’s scheduled class visits.

Can parents attend while their child(ren) is at the Fair?

Yes! One parent is welcome to shop the Book Fair with their child during his/her child’s scheduled visit time. Parents who volunteer to help with the Book Fair will be scheduled to work during the time their child’s class will visit.

Will the preschool students attend the Book Fair as a class? Yes! The preschool students will visit the Fair with their class. However, if they wish to make a purchase, a parent/guardian should be present. Please refer to the attached document with dates and times for each class’ visit

How does my child(ren) pay for the books? • Student eWallet (see details below) is the preferred contactless method of payment for convenience. • Cash

• Blank check made out to Sicomac PTO. A budget amount MUST be indicated.

The final purchase price will be on your child’s receipt

• A check for a specific amount made out to Sicomac PTO – change will be given to your child if needed.

• Parents attending the Book Fair may use a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover are accepted) for purchases.

*Please note schools will no longer be tax exempt*

What is eWallet?

eWallet is a safe, contactless, and cashless way for students to shop for their own books. It’s free and easy to set up an account. Simply add money to your online eWallet and it will be immediately available to use at the Book Fair.

Please note: Any funds remaining in the eWallet after the Book Fair, are not returned to a credit card, but instead become a gift card balance and can be used online at Scholastic.com or may be used for a future Book Fair. For more FAQs/how to set up eWallet, please visit:

What is the “Student Wish List” form?

This form can be completed and brought home by students who will not be purchasing items during their scheduled visit. They may return the following day (if applicable) with payment or parents may contact one of the book fair chairs to set up a time to purchase (i.e. after school hours) or be ordered.

What is the “Classroom Wish List”?

Teachers complete Book Wish List Donation Cards for books they would like to add to their classroom reading shelves. These cards will be posted on a board at the Book Fair and parents may purchase books to donate to the classroom.

If a book my child wants is sold out, can it be ordered?

Yes, sold out books can be ordered! Children will complete an order form and pay for their book(s) during checkout. Once available, the items will be delivered directly to the school and sent home with your child.
